Most men panic at the sight of the slightest hair loss. But anxiety and stress will merely increase the rate of hair loss. Ideally, the first thing to do is to accept the situation gracefully and remain calm. Hair loss is a natural process; it happens to many people.
Male pattern baldness starts as thinning hair around the temples. Then the center of the head, the crown, starts to lose hair and becomes bald. Only the sides and back of the head might have some hair left in the shape of a horseshoe. This is the typical sequence of male pattern baldness.
Remember that genetics plays an important role in the health of your hair, and you have no control over it. However, multiple kinds of treatments of male pattern baldness can be followed to either reduce or stop hair loss and also to stimulate the growth of new hair. There are also a few natural home remedies that might help in stopping hair fall and stimulating the active growth of new locks on the head. You could consider these to treat the symptoms of male pattern baldness.
Treatments of male pattern baldness include the following:
1. Diet
A nutritious diet consisting of a variety of fresh fruits, green leafy vegetables, and plenty of water is primary. A diet rich in protein and iron must be consumed because protein and iron deficiency can lead to hair loss. Include dried beans like chickpeas, lima, kidney or soy, nuts like almonds, walnuts, pecans, hazel, macadamia, and pistachios, and seeds like pumpkin, chia, sesame, sunflower, and flax, and in the case of non-vegetarians, fish and eggs. Wheatgerm, mushrooms, and tofu are equally good for hair growth because they contain iron and biotin.
2. Head massage
A gentle head massage, when done with the tips of the fingers, especially with oils like coconut, castor, jojoba, olive, or almond along with a few drops of essential oils like peppermint, sandalwood, lavender, thyme, tea tree, or tulsi, might help in hair regrowth. Or like it is done in some Asian countries, warm up some oil, add a few leaves and flowers of the hibiscus plant, and gently apply on the scalp. When done 2-3 times a week, this could stimulate the flow of blood to hair follicles and help new hair to grow.
3. Saw palmetto berries
The berries of saw palmetto, a kind of native palm to America, help in preventing hair loss. Oral consumption of saw palmetto and pumpkin seed oil can also treat male pattern baldness.
4. Aloe vera gel
Applying the gel from aloe vera leaves directly on the scalp helps reduce hair fall, and promotes hair growth. Simply leave it on the scalp for 20-30 minutes and wash off with lukewarm water. Do this twice a week and see the difference it makes.
5. Egg mask
Break open an egg and whisk it well. Apply this as a mask all over the scalp and hair and leave it on for 15-20 minutes and then rinse it off with a mild shampoo. Since eggs contain hair growth stimulating proteins, it is used as a home remedy for male pattern baldness.
