Acne symptoms do plague some of our lives so much that we end up excusing ourselves from important plans. While it is true that acne can be our worst enemy, some of us are indeed fortunate enough to find a solution through effective home remedies to treat acne. Sadly, some have to pay a visit to the dermatologist. Here are some effective home remedies to treat acne in adults:
1. Apple cider vinegar (ACV)
ACV is the go-to medicine for pretty much everything, right from skincare to weight loss and even detox. The acids in apple cider vinegar fight against bacteria, germs, and the oil, and succinic acid present helps with inflammation and removal of acne scars.
Take one part of ACV and dilute it with three to four parts of water. Dab on the affected areas and wash them with warm water. You could repeat this twice a week.
2. Tea tree oil
This oil is an antiseptic, anti-inflammatory, and ant-bacterial oil. It immediately acts on the skin by clearing the infection and itchiness. It is usually compared with benzoyl peroxide, which is the most common over-the-counter medication available for acne. If you were to apply the oil in its raw state, it is most likely to cause skin burn. Therefore, take one part of the oil and mix it with 10 parts of water. Use it every day for effective results. This cures acne and helps in retaining the glow of the skin.
3. Green tea
Green tea can be used in more than one way. It is rich in antioxidants, flavonoids, and tannins and it also reduces acne-induced blood sugar. When applied topically, it can help reduce inflammation and stuns the growth of several bacteria. Heat a pot and use a cotton ball to apply once it is cooled. A daily application is recommended.
4. Turmeric with honey
It would be surprising to find a home remedy that doesn’t include turmeric and honey. These two have been the mainstay for many. It has anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial powers and is highly effective for home treatments for acne. Talk one teaspoon of turmeric and mix it with honey as required and place the mix on the affected areas. Let it stay for 10 minutes and wash it with warm water for effective acne treatment.
5. Aloe vera
The anti-fungal properties present in aloe vera prevent infections and expedite healing. The astringent properties prevent sebum production and also the gathering of dirt, thereby discouraging the growth of acne. Apply the gel on your face, if possible twice a day, and leave it for 10 minutes.
Besides the above, to get effective results, you should avoid touching the affected areas, as it would spread and also cause scar marks.
